Canada supports a nuclear holocaust… yes, you read that right

On July 7th, the United Nations member nations held a vote on a global treaty that, if successful, would lead to the destruction of all nuclear weapons and forever prohibit their use.

Negotiators representing two-thirds of the 192-member United Nations finalized Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons this week after months of talks.

Canada did not take part in these talks. The stated reason for Canada not taking part in the U.N. treaty talks was that ‘The United States has the right to defend itself’. This goes to show the extent to which our government is wholly aligned with current U.S. foreign and military policies.

CUSJ President Margaret Rao has written a letter to Prime Minister Trudeau in which she states:

”In choosing to renege on your election campaign promise to take part in these historic negotiations and to further align Canada’s defence policies with the United States and its NATO allies, you have deeply damaged Canada’s reputation as an ‘honest broker’ in the international arena.”

Meanwhile, in the name of ‘security’, the U.S. plans to increase of 54 billion in defence spending with additional nuclear capabilities.

Wow. That is scary.

Rao reminds our vascillating PM that Canada, and other NATO nations, will have the chance ot redeem itself on September 20th, when the Annual General Assembly meets again.

The United Nations’ charter engages to ‘maintain international peace and security’ and ‘develop friendly relations among nations’–goals that are incompatible with nuclear armament. In the current era of war, environmental destruction, how far we have drifted from the spirit of the prophesy in Isaiah 2:4:

He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.

More than 120 nations voted for peace on July 7th. How disappointing and shameful that Canada was not among them…. there is still time.

  1. Wow. This is stunning and upsetting. Shame on the Canadian and U.S. Governments for their backwards approach to nationhood and international diplomacy.
