The Barriere Lake Algonquins have been in the news frequently in the past few years, and most of the news has not been encouraging. However, the Trudeau government seems to be committed to improving education infrastructure in First Nations communities, and the $969.4-million investment included in the 2016 budget is an important first step. Schools, in particular, are reportedly in poor condition, and the Barriere Lake schoolchildren have had no choice but to attend mould-infested buildings. Hopefully that will change soon.
