Why CUSJ supports insite-style safe injection sites

In September 2013, CUSJ wrote a letter to support insite-style safe injection sites.

We can learn from the experience of Portugal, where the twelve-year-old drug decriminalization policy has been declared a success. The drug problems there have plateaued, and in many ways they are getting better. Portugal uses drug policy for addiction assessment, disease prevention, and voluntary treatment.  Criminal charges focus on dealers, not users.

NOTE: CUSJ signed on to a Canadian Drug Policy Coalition in February 2013. Prior to that, in September 2012, CUSJ signed on to a call for a solid public health care system.
