Vancouver UUs host event for wild salmon and for indigenous defenders

Mary Bennet of the Unitarian Church of Vancouver reports:

What an event we hosted last night [Feb 19 2018] at UCV. Thanks to the Environment Committee, the Board, the musicians, the speakers, the artists and groups who donated items for the silent auction.. and Tamiko Suzuki – our great emcee for the evening.

I was so proud to be at “church” last night for wonderful music, inspiring speeches and local, organic food at the reception. All of the money we raised goes to the Swanson Island occupiers in Broughton Islands area (near Alert Bay). The Vancouver Unitarians board approved paying all expenses for the entire evening at the request of the Environment committee.

Here’s the video of the evening (start at 3 min mark):

It’s worth watching the whole two hours (I just watched it again!), but if you only have a little bit of time right now, here are two of the speeches.

David Suzuki 1:08-1:28

Chief Ernest Alfred 1:35 – 1:55

Do go back though and watch more—including the great music from local musicians.
