CUSJ is pleased to announce that a new local CUSJ chapter has been formed in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The three founders–Bob Manson, Susan J. Woods, and Sally Palmer Woods–all members of Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship–stated that the CUSJ Thunder Bay Chapter intends to work towards social justice locally, provincially, and nationally, because they feel that this multi-level approach would be the most effective. The chapter has already had two meetings and has about 11 members!
They further stated:
Our group is interested in and, in some cases, already involved in a diversity of issues. …We might need time to develop a common focus and purpose. We intend to begin by learning what is happening locally on the social justice scene and then discussing if and how we might become involved and if we can cooperate with other groups. Our other immediate goal is to inform our congregation re social justice issues and events.
It’s good to know that there are allies not too far from Winnipeg. We are seriously considering joining CUSJ – maybe we could collaborate on some major events in the future. All the best to the CUSJ Board and chapters.
Thanks, Adina! Yes, we activists are stronger together. Here in Québec, we hope to form a Regional Chapter very soon… watch this space! However, even if you don’t have a chapter, you can still join the CUSJ as an individual. Also, social-justice minded UUs can stay in touch through this site, and through our listserv (cusjforum@googlegroups.com). To be added to that list, simply contact Joy Silver (members@cusj.org). Finally, there is the Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/cusjca/
